Yorkminster Cathedral is a must see as is walking along the Shambles. The sense of history, the people in the city, walking the "wall" and the pubs are all not to be missed! Walking is your best bet, very narrow cobble stoned streets, excellent shopping opportunities abound! The "Dungeon" is great fun too!
What a great city. Such history and character. The Yorvik experience, the chocolate story, the open top bus tour, the city centre market, the Minster and so much more. What is there not to like about York.
York Minster is amazing! Make the climb up the central tower, the view is so worth it! There are plenty of cool little streets to explore. I'm sure there are many more things to do that we just didn't have time for. Don't go to the Raj (Indian restaurant recommended at our lodgings). I've had much better Indian food and the service was so-so.
Surprisingly, lots to do here, Highly recommend the National Railway museum, Betty’s Cakes, the Shambles, the York Minster. - downstairs - just walking the old quarter. Much more to do, two days at a minimum needed
I love visiting York as my daughter has lived there for the last five years. There are lots of lovely places to walk around and see and many good restaurants and bars. The city is compact and easy to navigate. It's a beautiful place to visit.
Loved the Old City, York Minster (my favorite), walking the wall and walking through the old streets (like the Shambles). There were lots of restaurants to choose from, but many closed early on week nights. The museum was no more than fair since they had most of the Viking items out on loan. The museum was very disappointing from what I had read about. We also spent some time in Nidderdale, which was beautiful. Could have easily spent another day in eastern Yorkshire.
